The Story
The Story
Marinara means "sailor style" named after the Italian sailors of the 16th century who carried this sauce on long voyages because it kept well at sea. Born in Naples and perfected across Southern Italy, it's the simplest and most honest of Italian sauces: slow-simmered tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and herbs. No cream, no shortcuts, no sugar. Chilzo's Marinara slow-simmers blanched tomatoes until they develop a naturally sweet, velvety depth just as they do it in the south of Italy.
